Mike
Dann
A Yorkshire man by birth Mike spent most of his teenage years in the Yorkshire
Dales developing a passion for the mountains and outdoors that has stayed
with him. As a university student he spent as much free time as possible
travelling throughout the world, including South and Central America,
Egypt and the Mediterranean. Rock climbing in Britain led to mountaineering
in the French Alps, the Andes, and a major month-long expedition in
Alaska with Simon. An Engineer by profession he has been working for
GKN in the UK and France over the past 2 years.
Tim
Tottenham
Although born in Wales, Tim grew up in his family’s home
country of Ireland. He was introduced to an outdoor life from the age
of 5 and has revelled in hard environments ever since. After three years
at University in London where he was a physical training instructor
in the Officer Training Corps with Mike, Tim joined the Royal Marines
in 2001. He has served in various parts of the world including Iraq,
and the US. He has also spent considerable time doing Mountain and Arctic
Warfare training in Norway where he learnt valuable lessons on how to
maintain peak performance in the harsh arctic environment. He is now
in a staff role in Portsmouth, thus affording the time to devote to
Polar Challenge.
Simon
Edmundson
Brought up in Cambridge, Simon has always had an active lifestyle
climbing, skiing and a participating in a variety of team sports; in
particular he is a keen hockey player. He is an extremely experienced
ski mountaineer as well as an excellent downhill skier. As a mountaineer
Simon is no stranger to the kind of harsh conditions we will experience
in the Arctic having climbed in the European Alps, Iceland, Kenya, Alaska
and the Himalayas. Simon is a Mechanical Engineer and is currently working
for Schlumberger in North Africa.
